Week 2 Growth Mindset

(Meme from Laura Gibbs' "Growth Mindset Memes" page)

This week I talked to my roommate about the benefits of the growth mindset in education. She is an education major so she had fortunately already heard of this concept and was eager to talk to someone else about it! We started talking about the importance of teaching children to have higher goals and then it lead in turn, to talking about the problems with the common core curriculum that Oklahoma will be required to use. It was a very interesting conversation and I learned a little bit more about her in the process!

  1. I am so glad to hear about this, Hannah! I would guess that it is indeed in the Educational School that students are most likely to get to learn about Carol Dweck; there are a LOT of K-12 teachers who are making really good use of these ideas in their teaching. Of course, I think it works for all learners and all learning, so I hope that in the next few years more and more OU students will learn about this. Kyle Harper, our new Provost (himself a former OU student!), is interested in growth mindset, so I am hoping he might get some real activity going across campus in all the colleges about this very useful concept. :-)
