Tech Tip: Hashtags and Retweets

The tweet that I chose to retweet from the class pages was "10 Elementary Tips for Writers from Sherlock Holmes". I chose this tweet because it links to an interesting article that I think is useful for everyone in this class since we find ourselves doing so much writing in the form of blog postings.

The hashtag I chose was #boomerbuzz. I chose this hashtag because I had never seen it before and I thought it was obviously relevant to OU!

Reading Diary B: Kincaid Mahabharata

-The Pandava brothers have finally spent all twelve years of exile when they come to the year of disguise. They plan to spend this year in the court of King Virata.
-King Virata's daughter ends up marrying the son of Arjuna.
-Yudhishthira disguises himself as a gambler because of his past, Bhima disguises himself as a cook, Nakula works in the stables, Sahadeva is a cow-herd, and Arjuna is disguised as a dancing teacher.
-Draupadi is disguised as the queen's beautiful maid.
-Kichaka tries to rape the beautiful maid and Bhima promises to avenge Draupadi.
-Bhima waits one night for Kichaka and crushes him to death (exactly how does he go about crushing him to death?).
-Draupadi claims that she has a celestial husband and this gets her off the hook for the death of the queen's brother??
-The Pandavas reveal their true identities to King Virata at the end of their exile. This is also when Arjuna's son marries the princess.
-Duryodhana wants to keep the brothers in the forest, so he tries to convince King Dhritarashtra to continue their exile for 12 more years.
-At the end of the Mahabharata, the Bharatas are reunited once again.
-Yudhishthira has a loyal hunting dog that accompanies him and Indra takes him and the dog up to heaven. However, his siblings are down in Hell. He must renounce heaven in order to be with them and so he does. Wow, true loyalty. This is also a test from Indra though. Because of Yudhishthira's choice to be with all of them, they are all allowed to go to heaven with him now.

Reading Diary A: Kincaid Mahabharata

-Duryodhana is the eldest of the Kauravas (one hundred sons between King Dhritarashtra and Queen Gandhari).
-The Pandavas and Kauravas are both descendants of King Bharata, so they are known collectively as "the Bharatas".
-Duryodhana grows very jealous of the Pandavas and plots to kill them along with their mother, but they escape by means of a tunnel with a warning in advance.
-Kunti and the Pandavas run to the forest disguised as Brahmins and have many adventures and dangers there.
-The Pandava brothers all marry Draupadi.
-Arjuna is sent into "self-imposed" exile when he enters Draupadi's room at the same time that Yudhishthira is in there.
-Yudhishthira has a gambling problem and ends up going so far as to gamble away Draupadi, his wife.
-The Pandavas are forced into exile in the forest for 13 years (the 13th year must be in disguise).
-Arjuna climbs the Himalayas in search for the heavenly city of Indra (Amaravati).
-Arjuna is told by a man (Indra in disguise) that he must search for Shiva before he can find this city.
-Arjuna kills a boar, another hunter (Shiva in disguise) challenges him for the boar and then reveals himself, bestowing golden armor for Arjuna.

I liked reading from the Kincaid Mahabharata a lot more because the reading guide was easier to understand. It really helped with the flow of the stories and kept my interest throughout the entire reading. It is also very useful to go back to and find stories easily. This quality makes it perfect for storybook projects in the future.

Growth Mindset: Week 6

As I was creating my meme for this week's growth mindset, I decided to base it off of something that was relevant to my life. Sometimes, I look at the past negatively; decisions I've made, tests I've failed, etc. However, I think that sometimes the past can inspire you for the future.

For instance, because I failed a class my freshman year. I am always reminded not of my failure, but of my chance to try again. I was able to take the class again and I did much better the second time! When I received the new grade, I felt so successful. I felt much more successful than if I had just passed the class the first time without giving it a second thought.

Anyways, this is what inspired me to design this meme and I hope it also inspires anyone who sees this blog post!

Reading Feedback

I feel like it is the same story with me every week, but again, I chose my reading selection based on what was readily accessible and easy to use. The reading this week took me about 2 1/2-3 hours, a little bit longer than last week.

I did not get my reading from Bizzell. In fact, I tend to not use Bizzell a lot this year. I am a Price student so I find that the majority of my time is spent in Price, although I miss studying in Bizzell!

I did most of my studying in Price, so I decided to include a picture of Price Hall itself!

Famous Last Words: Week 6

This week was definitely interesting to say the least. I expected it to be worse than it was I believe. As the treasurer for my sorority, it is my job to send out the email for dues for the semester and this always takes out a huge chunk of time from my week. I enjoy doing my job, but I do miss having a little time for myself sometimes! Oh well, I guess this is all part of growing up!

I also had to break ground on a lot of my semester projects this week for different classes. While Indian Epics seems to be a constant, stable amount of work, my other classes seem to fluctuate greatly in their workloads, which is strenuous for both my health and my sanity!

Another great part to my week was that I got to spend some good quality time with my three roommates! In addition to being my roommates, these girls are also my best friends. We all went to The Warren movie theater in Moore to see the movie The Intern. We all really enjoyed it, so go see it if you have not already!

I got to go the football game this weekend which was super exciting for me because I love football, especially Sooner football! Even though game days take up a big portion of my time in the day and I am absolutely exhausted afterwards, it is totally worth it. I spent the rest of Saturday catching up on homework for all of my classes, though, which was not very much fun.

Unfortunately, this will be a very busy week for me because I have a very important interview and a very important part of a project due in one of my classes! Of course, it also happens to be a group project so I have to make sure that my group and I meet up sometime this week in order to finalize all of the details.
